Whistler, Canada

Wintery Western Canada at its Best

Whistler Blackcomb’s majestic mountain scenery and spectacular array of ski and non-ski activities draw visitors from around the world. Originally home to loggers and fishermen, the area now provides endless adventure for winter sports enthusiasts. The resort is situated in British Columbia’s Coast Mountain Range, just 75 miles from Vancouver. Set at the base of both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, the town’s pedestrian-only streets provide international restaurants, cafés, bars, and shops that appeal to many tastes.
Whistler Blackcomb offers over 8,000 acres of terrain with more than 200 marked trails. Thirty-three lifts carry skiers and snowboarders to 12 alpine bowls and three glaciers. Runs are designated 20% for beginners, 55% for intermediates, and 25% for experts. The longest trail runs 11 kilometers (7 miles) and the vertical drop on each mountain is over 1,500 meters (5,000 feet).
The resort’s ski school offers group and private lessons for all skill levels. Lessons in a variety of specialties range from classes for disabled skiers to moguls to women’s snowboarding. There are extensive programs for all snowboarders, as well.
Snowboarders enjoy the Terrain Garden, Snow Cross, Terrain Park, Highest Level, Halfpipe and the Super Pipe. Cross-country skiers find 28 kilometers (18 miles) of trails winding through picturesque Lost Lake Park. The resort’s off-slope activities include aerial sightseeing, backcountry tours, ice skating, sleigh rides, dog sledding, ice fishing, and ice climbing.
